Weathering the storm . . . in more ways than one

Captain's Log: 1 July, 2014; Hour: 2038

We're hunkered down in Fort Pierce awaiting any ill effects of Tropical Storm Arthur. We're experiencing periods of rain and some light winds but nothing serious yet. We're hoping the storm will move north overnight and leave us alone. We've had quite enough trouble so far as it is.

The generator part that was supposed to be sent overnight yesterday was mistakenly sent second-day instead. It's scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning. God only knows when it will be installed.

We're now 8 days past our original departure date and the crew is trying to keep a cheerful disposition. We're at the mercy of others and there's not much we can do about it. Hopefully, we'll shove off sometime tomorrow. With Arthur to our stern we can only hope there are sunnier days ahead.

  1. In light of the delays, the name "No Rush" might be appropriate. And for the record I'd say you're no Rush, you're much better.

  2. I'll suggest "M/V Someday" for a new name... for "someday" you and your good crew might be able to cast those lines off and slip away on your good boat for the more familiar waters of your Tennessee River... "someday" indeed!

  3. Name the boat Excalibur and pull it out.

  4. Maybe you should name the boat "Always Tomorrow"

  5. I feel your pain. We've been working on our boat for 4 months now (22 foot Checkmate, blown motor replaced and new interior) and 1 day it's "okay" and the next there's another bug. Fortunately we are mechanics so no hold on getting the work done, it's getting the PARTS. All our boats have been this way; some days you just want to drive out to the middle and pull the drain-plug. Hang in there, it'll be great. That's just how boats are. :-)

  6. BTW, the best boat we've had was a '88 ChrisCraft Stinger 312 (cigarette type boat, dual 454s) and it was the easiest to maintain, nicest materials, best running boat we've had. So I bet your CC will be the same.
