We're getting close!

Captain's Log: 24 June, 2014; Hour: 1635

The batteries for Yesterday arrived at the dock this morning and were being transported into the engine room and installed. We have decided to remove the onboard refrigerator but they're having to saw it in half to get it out of the boat.

We had the fuel in the fuel tanks "polished" this morning. That means they run the fuel through a strainer to make sure it's clean then return it to the tanks. All fuel aboard looked great.

A piece of the GPS/depth finder has to be installed on the bottom and they're scheduled to do that first thing tomorrow. Once a sea trial is performed we should be underway tomorrow morning.

We are considering trying to do a broadcast while underway and we will be testing that tomorrow morning on the sea trial.

  1. I share your excitement as I have also purchased a 43' 1980 Hatteras double cabin with twin Detroit diesels, which is on old Hickory lake. Thumbs up.

  2. Beautiful boat. Maybe our paths will cross out there somewhere.

  3. You are going to need a lot of burnt cooking oil to make the full loop in that boat

    1. LOL. I'm actually considering cranking up my biodiesel "still" when I get home. This thing holds 450 gallons! That's a lot of fried chicken and french fries!

  4. Make sure you have some "bumpers" before you start making locks on that trip up the inland waterways and rivers!

    1. As you probably heard, we had to saw the old refrigerator in half to get it off the boat. The largest opening is 21 inches. We looked everywhere and couldn't find a full-sized fridge that narrow, even taking the doors off. So, we bought one that's about chest high and then one of those smaller dorm fridges to go on top of it. So far, it's worked out great.

The electrician who looked at the first fridge said it was not original to the boat. The only thing I can figure is they took the top off of the boat and brought it in there many years ago. That's quite a destructive process. There's a way to cut the ceiling above the salon so that engines can be removed but you have to destroy the fiberglass above it then re-install more fiberglass. It wasn't worth doing all that just to get a refrigerator in there.

I'll keep looking for a full-size unit narrow enough to fit through the door. If we find one we'll just sell the two we have.
